Clayton Yeutter was honored with the 2007 Distinguished Nebraskan Award in Washington, D.C., on November 6, 2007. The event was held at the beautiful Department of Agriculture Patio, a fitting setting given that Mr. Yeutter is a former Secretary of Agriculture. Among his many other accomplishments, Mr. Yeutter has also served as U.S. Trade Representative and president and chief executive officer of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. He received his Ph.D., J.D. and B.S. degrees from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and worked as chief of staff to the Governor of Nebraska early in his career. He is currently of counsel for the law firm of Hogan & Hartson in Washington, D.C.
The event was well attended and included kind words for the recipient from former Secretary of Agriculture, Mike Johanns, then Acting Secretary of Agriculture, Chuck Conner, 2007 Nebraska Society Honorary Chairman, Senator Ben Nelson and Nebraska Congressmen Lee Terry and Jeff Fortenberry. Letters of congratulations were also presented from former President George H.W. Bush, Senator Chuck Hagel and the Illinois State Society.
