DISTINGUISHED NEBRASKAN AWARD

Congratulations to Cathy Hughes, our 2012 DNA Winner

The Distinguished Nebraskan Award Reception, honoring the Founder and Chairperson of Radio One, Inc., Ms. Cathy Hughes, was held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012. Ms. Hughes, born in Omaha, created the largest African American owned and operated broadcast-company in the nation. Please read more about our 2012 Distinguished Nebraskan.

The Nebraska Society selects a deserving individual (or individuals) each year to receive the Society’s Distinguished Nebraskan Award, presented for distinguished service to the state and people of Nebraska. Award recipients over the years have included doctors and athletes, civil servants and elected officials, businesspeople and entrepreneurs, filmmakers and performers, and many others. The Award is usually presented at a formal reception or dinner with the Nebraska Congressional Delegation and other distinguished guests in attendance.

Review our list of Previous Distinguished Nebraskans with biographies on past recipients since 1965.

The DNA Committee welcomes your ideas.  If you have any suggestions for future DNA recipients, please email dna@nebraskasociety.org with the name(s) and a brief description of why they are distinguished Nebraskans.
