The Distinguished Nebraskan Award Reception, honoring the Founder and Chairperson of Radio One, Inc., Ms. Cathy Hughes, will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Cullen Room at 1025 5th Street, NW, Washington, D.C. from 6 to 8 p.m. Ms. Hughes, born in Omaha, created the largest African American owned and operated broadcast-company in the nation. The Nebraska Society selects a deserving individual (or individuals) each year to receive the Society’s Distinguished Nebraskan Award, presented for distinguished service to the state and people of Nebraska. Award recipients over the years have included doctors and athletes, civil servants and elected officials, businesspeople and entrepreneurs, filmmakers and performers, and many others. The Award is usually presented at a formal reception or dinner with the Nebraska Congressional Delegation and other distinguished guests in attendance
