Meet our 2007 Cherry Blossom Princess: Desereé Johnston

The Nebraska Society of Washington selected Desereé Johnston, daughter of Robert and Joni Johnston, of Orchard, Nebraska, as Nebraska's 2007 Cherry Blossom Princess.  Miss Johnston will represent our state and the Nebraska Society at the 95th Annual National Cherry Blossom Festival. Desereé has a strong interest in international affairs and was the first female to win Nebraska's State Geography Bee in 2001.  She is now a sophomore Political Science major at Nebraska Wesleyan University where she serves as captain of her Dance Team, participates in the Student Affairs Senate, the Society of Scholars and the President's Student Advisory Council.  Desereé has volunteered in New Orleans and Panama as a Global Service Learning member and worked on tsunami reconstruction efforts in Sri Lanka.  She also attended a World Bank International Symposium and works at the National Student Leadership Conference.  Desereé currently interns in the DC office of U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel.

Say hello to Desereé!  The Nebraska Society is holding a reception in Desereé's honor at Tortilla Coast (in the Rio Room downstairs; 400 First Street, SE; Capitol South metro) on Thursday evening, April 12th, 2007 (5:30-7:30pm).  Appetizers and beverages will be provided, but donations will be gladly accepted at the door.  Alcoholic beverages may be ordered from the bar and paid for on individual checks.

Please RSVP to vp@nebraskasociety.org so we know how many to expect.
