2005 Distinguished Nebraskans Award Recipients

The Honorable J. Robert Kerrey and The Honorable Harold J. Daub, Ph.D.

Bob Kerrey promoted Nebraska into the national political spotlight during his two-term tenure as a U.S. Senator (1989-2001), running for his party’s nomination for President in 1992. Kerrey also served as Governor of Nebraska from 1983-1987 and recently served as a member of the 9-11 Commission. Bob earned the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service in the Vietnam War, in which he lost a portion of one leg. Kerrey currently serves as president of The New School in New York City.

Hal Daub, an institution of Omaha politics during the 1980s and 1990s, served as a four?]term United States Congressman (1981-1989) and later as a twice-elected mayor of Omaha (1995-2001). Daub graduated from Benson High School and, after earning his undergraduate degree at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, returned for his law degree from the University of Nebraska.
