2002 Distinguished Nebraskans Award Recipient

The Honorable William E. Barrett

Already a successful real estate broker, Bill Barrett was elected to the Nebraska State Legislature in 1978, where he served as speaker from 1987 to 1991. Barrett was then elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and by the third term of his 10 year career in the House, Barrett rose to the rank of vice chairman of the House Agriculture Committee, enabling him to draft two Farm Bills.
