The Honorable Robert Van Pelt
Judge Van Pelt served as a U.S. District Judge in Nebraska from 1957 until his death at age 90 in 1988. During his tenure, Judge Van Pelt served on the committee that drafted the Federal Rules of Evidence, which are the rules which govern the admissibility of evidence in the United States federal court system and have been adopted by a majority of states to a large extent. He also served as a special master appointed by the U.S. Supreme Court to handle four different state border disputes.
