1970 Distinguished Nebraskans Award Recipient

Albert Coady Wedemeyer

General Albert Wedemeyer served during World War II and primarily in the Asia theater.  The Omaha native authored the “Victory Program,” a comprehensive war plan which advocated the defeat of German armies in Europe as the United States’ strategy for entering the war.  After Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, this plan was adopted and expanded as the war continued.  He also helped plan the Normandy Campaign.
