Alfred M. Guenther
Allfred Guenther served as the youngest World War II Major General (age 42) and eventually served as the Supreme Allied Commander in Europe from 1953 to 1956, when he retired from the military. That same year, the Platte Center native was featured on the cover of Time magazine. The next year, he began an eight-year term as president of the American Red Cross.
